Please read this article bringing to light that the majority of antibacterial hand soap contain triclosan or triclocarbon, which cause hormone changes, possible infertility and abnormal development. There is no need to buy these products that may be causing serious, long term damage to ourselves, our species, animals and the environment.

Okay...I have to admit to being lazy here. I am responding to this post without having read your link. Thing is, this is a huge topic for me. I am insanely passionate about my dislike of antibacterial everything. Heaven forbid that a company make just plain soap, that has always worked wonders when it comes to hand-washing efforts. Or plain old bleach when it comes to disinfecting.
ReplyDeleteBut nooooo...we must flood the market with products that are creating a mass of superbugs that our bodies cannot fight. Our immune system, when naturally challenged, does an amazing job of keeping us healthy. When the body doesn't quite get it done, a small helping of antibiotics used to do the trick. Now people get sick from the least little thing and when people really get sick, there is no last line of defense because there is nothing left to help.
It infuriates me. I tell everyone and anyone who will listen to me. We have to find a way to restore the natural balance. My fear is generally that we have dug a massive hole on this one.
Well, seeing as you already understand the problems, the article is probably reiterating what you already know. I'm afraid of the same things. We have not yet reached the point in human history where we have seen the impact of mass amounts of chemicals. We are starting to for SURE (very easily if you open your eyes and mind), but it's still something many people can choose to ignore at this point (largely due to the fact that it is profitable business to create, advertise and sell these chemicals). Eventually, these things most people are ignoring or unaware of are going to catch up to us. In fact, I think most aspects of human society are eventually going to catch up with us, whether its what we do to the atmosphere, to the land, to ourselves... for me the bottom line is the same, we can't continue this route of general unawareness and disregard. At some point, nature is going to catch up to us and put the human species back in its place and this might mean many many deaths in the near or far future. Who knows, maybe it will even mean extinction. We don't need all these chemicals for all the reasons you stated and more. What's wrong with natural oils for cleaning anyway? Nothing. It's the way it should be. We will have to start focusing on sustainable living in every aspect and this is a very big one indeed.
